Possible breakthrough as Downer stays on the island

There was a sudden reversal from the impasse in the issue over the joint communique for the start of talks on Cyprus yesterday afternoon, the media report.
Just as the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative was at the airport ready to leave, there was a new development that opened a window of hope and made him come back to Nicosia, Politis reports.

A new proposal submitted by the United Nations on the issue of sovereignty , which had also been discussed by the Turkish Cypriot Foreign Minister, Ozdil Nami, was received positively by President Anastasiades .

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu gave indications in Athens that chances of reaching an agreement had increased. He will be flying to the north of Cyprus today to discuss developments with Mr Eroglu, whose stance, however, is still unkown.
